PEMBAGIAN KALIMAT

A. SIMPLE SENTECE

Simple sentence adalah sentence type (tipe kalimat) yang paling mendasar, yaitu hanya terdiri dari satu independent clause. Tipe kalimat ini bukan berarti “simple” (sederhana) untuk dipahami karena simple sentence sendiri merujuk pada pola kalimat bukan the complexity of thought (kompleksitas pemikiran).

Example:

·  Marry is a doctor.

·  My father is a police.

·  I become a teacher.

·  My sister got tired.

·  I feel bored

B. COMPOUND SENTENCE

Compound sentence adalah sentence type (tipe kalimat) yang terdiri dari dua atau lebih independent clause. Pada compound sentence, pikiran pada dua atau lebih independent clause tersebut dihubungkan dengan tingkat kepentingan yang setara.

Example:

1. The black dog has won many prizes, but he doesn’t know many tricks.
2. She saw a cat run in front of her, so she fell down while roller-skating.
3. There was a meteor shower in space, but the crew did not know how to avoid
the meteors..)

C. COMPLEX SENTENCE

Complex Sentence merupakan kalimat yang terdiri dari induk dan anak kalimat. Induk kalimat biasa disebut dengan independent clause atau juga main clause, sedangkan anak kalimat bisanya disebut sebagai dependent clause atau sub clause. Topik utama pembahasan complex sentence adalah clause. Oleh karena itu, penting bagi kita untuk mempelajari dan memahami definisi clause.

Example:

1. After my father came home (dependent), we made a dinner (independent).
2. My parents and I visited the Disneyland (independent) before it closed (dependent).
3. When I came to Indonesia (dependent), my friends had finished their study (independent).

D. COMPOUND COMPLEX SENTENCE

Compound-complex sentence adalah sentence type (tipe kalimat) yang merupakan kombinasi antara compound dengan complex sentence. Tipe kalimat ini memiliki 3 atau lebih klausa di dalamnya, dimana minimal terdiri dari 2 independent clause dan 1 dependent clause.Tipe kalimat yang lain yaitu: simple, compound, dan complex sentence.

Contoh :  While he was cleaning the kitchen, he found a lot of  expired food, He found a lot of expired food, but he didn’t got rid of it immediately.
